Frequently used information
Tax topics you should know
Health insurance responsibility
California requires residents to have qualifying health coverage. Without it for the year, a penalty may apply on your state return. If you received a Covered California subsidy, you'll need Form 1095-A to reconcile the credit (Form 8962).
Paying Use Tax
When you buy items outside California or online without paying sales tax, you generally owe Use Tax. You can report it on your state return (Form 540) or with the CDTFA.
Important deadlines
Personal returns: April 15. Estimated payments: April, June, September and January. Partnerships & S-Corps: March 15.
